Dreams, Dance and Disco : A Contemporary Dance & Improvisation Workshop

Join us for an immersive exploration of body, movement, and connection. This workshop will begin with grounding breathwork to tune into the body and center the mind. From there, we will move through a sequence of bodywork, phrase work, and improvisation, investigating the anatomical structure of the body and its relationship with gravity, space, and rhythm. Through pushing, pulling, spiraling, and falling, we will explore movement in patterns and combinations, engaging both internal and external structures.
Drawing from release technique, flying low, and contact improvisation, the practice focuses on investigation and exploration, rather than prescribed steps. It encourages a deep, sensory engagement with gravity, force, and the body’s internal architecture, guiding you toward a fuller understanding of your movement potential and its interaction with the surrounding environment.
Following this, we will explore dance as a collective and individual experience. The session will move into a dream-sharing exercise, where participants will connect on a deeper level before diving into a group dance improvisation, influenced by abstract disco rhythms. This playful social dance will encourage connection, creativity, and the free flow of expression.
The workshop will close with a guided visualization and somatic experiencing, inviting you to integrate the movement and sensations explored throughout the session. This final exercise will allow you to reflect on the embodied journey and bring a sense of grounding and clarity as you move forward.
