About this Event
The Sega Dreamcast launched in North America on September 9, 1999 and was discontinued on January 31, 2001. This takes it beyond being a simple video game console and makes it something truly emblematic of a post-Berlin Wall/pre-9/11 era in history in which things seemed to be getting better. When the turn of the century was something to celebrate. When technology was fun and exciting.
...yeah that didn't last. But while those days were here they gave us this. I can't say exactly why I love the Dreamcast so much but I love the Dreamcast so much. It's a video game console that exists entirely in service of video games. A platform for creativity and expression, rather than just a stock price increase.
Its signature games - Jet Set Radio, Sonic Adventure, Space Channel 5, Samba De Amigo - are as remembered for their soundtracks as they are their gameplay. That's where we come in. Dreamcast Rave is a celebration of all the sights and sounds SEGA has to offer. Myself and my co-DJ Balloonxm will take you on a journey through the era's dance, pop, rave, hip-hop, rock and beyond.
We don't want to give you some 'throwback' 'remember when' nostalgia trip. We want to take this era, this system, these games, this music, and bring them to life right now. We want you to come dance and sing and celebrate what a glorious time capsule the Sega Dreamcast is.
Looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and making new friends,
Holiday Kirk
