About this Event
As part of the Taft Research Center's 2024/25 "Worldbuilding and Radical Worldmaking" programming, join us for the second dream machine maker session, where Dr. Megan Jeanne Gette invites participants to listen with critical attunement to atmospheric phenomena and terms of perceptibility; think with and beyond techno-rational utility and the social worlds it makes and unmakes through forms and technologies of listening & recording; and deepen an arts-based approach to environmental justice.
In this session, participants will learn to use and make EMF (electromagnetic frequency) microphones to listen with the hidden sounds of infrastructure and technological devices, considering the electromagnetic spectrum as resource and space of law. The session will center a “collective worldmaking” score/prompt from composer and musician Celeste Oram, who will join via Zoom, using participatory radio.
Optional advanced listening: Determi-Nation podcast, by Darrah Blackwater, incl. Spectrum Sovereignty Explained with Mariel Triggs and Māori Spectrum Rights with Antony Royal.
