About this Event
The hour before sunset, when the sun casts a glow is called the 'golden hour' and it's the perfect lighting for drawing. In this workshop we will take the easels outdoors and you will be able to create a drawing of a tree or trees from charcoal taught by artist Kate Hammersley. We will take a short stroll outside the studio to study different trees such as walnut, oak, sycamore and apple and discuss different approaches to drawing including proportion, shape, texture and mass. You will be able to learn how to work at an easel outdoors, or you can work on your lap or at a table if you wish. By the end of the evening you will be able to create a drawing to take home. Summer evenings are also the perfect time to hear the birds and try and spot them as we draw.
If the weather is inclement, we can retreat to the studio, which has large picture windows and draw trees from the window. Includes materials and tea and coffee or sparkling elderflower. If you have specific materials you like to work with bring them. All Levels welcome.

About the tutor:
Kate Hammersley BA MA PGCE is an artist who specialises in teaching drawing, she has taught workshops at the Ashmolean Museum and the Royal Society of Sculptors London. In 2022 she founded Field Art Space a place supporting creativity in the landscape.
