Drawing the Portrait with Aina Clotas
Drawing is the often overlooked base of all realistic figurative arts. During this workshop, we will cover some crucial points to help you develop more realistic portraits, whether you stick to drawing, or you move onto different medias. Come join us for a deep dive into understanding structure, form and likeness.
Saturday, March 7th, 9:00 - 12:00 + 1:00 - 4:00 PM and Sunday, March 8th, 9:00 - 12:00 PM. Nine hours in total with one hour lunch break on Saturday.
Fee:
$275.00 including model fees.
Class size: Between 4 and 10 students.
Schedule:
– Day 1: Study of head anatomy and proportions. Quick structure exercises. Light and form. Shape accuracy, finding likeness.
– Day 2: Rendering details three-dimensionally. Final touches.
TEACHING ARTIST:
Aina Clotas is a figurative oil painter born in Catalonia, Spain, in 1987. After attending an undergraduate filmmaking course, Aina received her BFA from the Universitat de Barcelona in 2012. To further her training, she studied traditional painting methods at the Barcelona Academy of Art, graduating in 2015. She taught at the Barcelona Academy of Art, La Salle University and the Florence Academy of Art in Sweden and is currently teaching at the College of San Mateo. Aina's personal work is influenced from both the nineteenth century atelier methods and the cinematography language. Her work has been exhibited in Spain, the United States, Portugal, Canada, Estonia and United States. Aina lives in Half Moon Bay, where she works at Nuance Fine Art, the art studio she shares with her husband Joe Altwer. Materials list for students to bring:
- Graphite Pencils 2B, HB and 2H. Make sure at least one of them is long, we'll use it to measure as well.
- Nitram Charcoal HB (red box)
- Kneaded eraser
- Sharpener
- Small piece of sanding paper to sharpen the charcoals. 220 grit, roughly 3 x 3 inches.
- One sheet of Canson mi-teintes paper. White or off-white.
- Artist tape
Cancellation policy:
If a student decides to withdraw the course two weeks prior to the beginning of the workshop, tuition will be refunded. After that date there are no refunds.
