Class Description
This entry-level course introduces the fundamentals of drawing over four sessions. Students will explore a range of materials and techniques while developing core concepts such as contour, shape, volume, line, value, and color. Each class includes guided instruction along with open studio time for observational drawing to reinforce new skills. Designed for beginners, this course offers a supportive yet challenging environment for anyone looking to build confidence and strengthen their drawing skills.
The materials fee for this class is $25. This is separate from the ticket price and is to reimburse the instructor for any tools or materials used in this class. This will be paid once, directly to the instructor at the start of the first class meeting. This instructor accepts Venmo, Cash or Check
Learning Objectives
- Become familiar with a range of drawing materials, including graphite and colored pencils, kneaded and polymer erasers, and the basic qualities of drawing paper.
- Develop an understanding of foundational drawing concepts such as contour, shape, volume, negative space, value, line, perspective, color, and color theory.
- Practice drawing from observation to strengthen accuracy and visual awareness.
- Build a solid foundation in basic drawing techniques and gain the confidence to continue exploring drawing beyond the course.

Christopher Wiley is an artist, musician, woodworker, game designer, and teacher who brings curiosity and enthusiasm to everything he creates. He is passionate about helping others discover the joy of making art. Drawing, he believes, is one of the most immediate and tactile ways to begin. By building strong foundational skills and confidence, he hopes to spark a lifelong creative practice in his students.

Class Policies
Attire: Attendants should wear close-toed slip-resistant shoes (steel-toe work boots are ideal), long pants, and no loose-fitting clothing that could possibly get caught in machinery. Make sure to wear only natural fibers (i.e., cotton, wool, linen, etc) and bring reading glasses if needed for detailed work.
