From Crisis to Community: How “Drag Me to Hell of a Good Time” Was Born
When a devastating tornado hit St. Louis, Mel knew immediate action was needed. In the first week after the storm, she headed to the Save A Lot on Natural Bridge Avenue in North St. Louis one of the sites the news had highlighted for food trucks, aid, and relief efforts.
With the support of her family, Mel gathered a list of urgently needed supplies from those on the ground. She headed to Costco and loaded up on diapers, wipes, cleaning products, soap, water, and more. As she handed out care packages at Ms. Shelly’s table, the extent of the devastation became real. But what stood out most was the sense of unity: people from all walks of life, coming together, using whatever resources they had to support one another.
Mel realized she could do more but not alone. It takes a village.
With the incredible support of friends, family, the queer and BIPOC communities, and both local and national small business sponsors, “Drag Me to Hell of a Good Time” was born.
In 2025, we’re bringing you a horror movie night meets drag and burlesque show fundraiser a thrilling, campy, and heartwarming event uniting art, entertainment, and activism.
All proceeds will benefit the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis and Operation Food Search, two organizations making a real impact on the ground.
Because community care is powerful and sometimes, a little glitter and gore can go a long way.
