Good Friday ServiceThe Crucifixion by John Stainer
Friday, April 3, 2026 | 6:30 pm | Sanctuary
On Good Friday, we invite you into a sacred and contemplative space as we gather in the Sanctuary for a service of worship centered on the choral masterwork The Crucifixion by John Stainer.
This beautiful and evocative musical meditation traces the Passion of Christ from His arrest in the garden through His death on the cross. Through Scripture, prayer, and song, we will walk together through the solemn events of Good Friday, allowing the music to guide our reflection on the depth of Christ’s suffering and the magnitude of His love.
This year, we will not be holding the Stations of the Cross service in Market Square. Instead, we invite the community to gather in the Sanctuary for this unified evening of worship and reflection.
The First Presbyterian Sanctuary Choir will lead the service, joined by guest soloists Dr. Josh Phelps, tenor, and Tony Deaton, bass, with guest organist Katie Scheetz. Their gifts, combined with the power and reverence of this masterwork, will create a powerful and prayerful experience.
This Good Friday service and presentation is free and open to the public. We encourage you to invite friends and neighbors to join us as we prepare our hearts for Easter morning.
