DOVS 2026 Seeing Beyond Lecture: An Eye on Colour!
About this Event

On Monday 23rd March 2026, the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences will host its first Seeing Beyond event in 2026, “An Eye on Colour!”.

This event will feature a plenary lecture about the latest colour vision research from Dr Amanda Douglass, Lecturer in our Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences. This will be followed by presentations by Dr John Parkes (occupational and environmental physician), focused on the importance of paediatric colour vision testing, and Dr Jingjing Lin, one of our PhD candidates who is undertaking novel exploration of colour vision in people with neurodegenerative disease.


When: Monday 23 March, 6:30pm - 7:30pm - check in and light refreshments from 6:00pm before lecture

About the Speakers:

  • Dr Amanda Douglass is a Lecturer in Optometry and Vision Sciences at the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences, University of Melbourne. Amanda is passionate about colour vision testing and is a member of the International Colour Vision Society. She has clinical experience delivering best practice colour vision evaluation and management to patients as well as research experience working with international labs in the US and UK developing and validating colour vision tests and protocols.
  • Dr John Parkes is an experienced Occupational & Environmental Physician and a Public Health Physician who has worked in senior positions in Australia and overseas, as well as in the private sector. A specialist in occupational colour vision, he runs the Occupational Colour Vision Clinic at the Melbourne Eyecare Clinic, University of Melbourne, examining workers and children. He has conducted reviews of colour vision standards for a number of State and national agencies.
  • Dr Jingjing Lin completed her Bachelor of Medicine (2016) and Master of Medicine (2018) from Wenzhou Medical University, China, majoring in ophthalmology and optometry. She was a resident at the Affiliated Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University from 2018-2024, before relocating to Melbourne to pursue a PhD in the Ocular Biomarker Laboratory led by A/Prof Christine Nguyen in the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences, University of Melbourne.
