On Tuesday, March 18th at The Electric Theater, it’s on to the 1940s as The Electric Film Series proudly presents a FREE screening of a film noir classic from one of the great filmmakers of all time;
“Double Indemnity” (1944)

The legendary Billy Wilder (an iconic filmmaker who would go on to direct a handful of masterworks including “Sunset Boulevard” and “The Apartment”) was in his mid-30s when he set out to make his fourth feature film, “Double Indemnity,” an effort that is, to this very day, considered one of the great film noirs of all time. This tale of lust and greed features Fred MacMurray as insurance salesman Walter Neff and the legendary Barbara Stanwyck as Phyllis Dietrichson, the persuasive (and dissatisfied) housewife who looks to convince him to take part in a most diabolical fraud scheme. The end result is a meticulously crafted story of betrayal with one of the great femme fatales in the history of cinema at its center. Famed critic Pauline Kael says; “This shrewd, smoothly tawdry thriller, directed by Billy Wilder, is one of the high points of 1940s films.” Come and experience it on the big screen with your friends at FMASU.
Per usual, we at The Electric Film Series aren’t just about the movies themselves. We’re also all about film history and context and as such, with each of these screenings we have a very special guest on hand to introduce the title of the evening and to lead a post-screening discussion. Our special guest speaker for “Double Indemnity” is film historian, writer, and actor, Beau Stucki. Mr. Stucki is a grand admirer of the classics and he counts this particular movie as one of his favorite films of all time. Fun fact; Beau’s influential film-viewing platform, “This Movie Club,” would help pave the way for The Electric Film Series as it exists today, yet another reason he’s the perfect guest speaker for our highly-anticipated screening of “Double Indemnity.”
Be sure to arrive at our screening a little early and order an optional menu item from Riggatti’s to enjoy during the post-screening discussion or, you can feel free to take the pizza home with you following the movie.
