Join us for an exciting double book launch celebrating the debut poetry collections of two past Mississauga Youth Poet Laureates, Qurat Dar (Non-Prophet, Goose Lane Editions, Fall 2025) and Pujita Verma (Precedence, Brick Books, Spring 2026). Qurat and Pujita will be joined by special guest Sanna Wani.
Doors Open 6:00 pm, Readings Start 6:30. This event is free and open to the public.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS:
Qurat Dar was Mississauga’s Youth Poet Laureate from 2021 to 2023 and the 2020 Canadian Individual Poetry Slam (CIPS) National Champion. Her poetry has been published by Arc, Room, and Canthius, and shown at the Art Gallery of Mississauga and across the TTC network. Her debut collection, Non-Prophet, was the winner of the inaugural Claire Harris Poetry Prize and is a finalist for a Lambda Literary Award and the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award.
Pujita Verma is a poet and illustrator currently living in London, Ontario. Her work has appeared across the Toronto Transit Commission Network and CBC’s The National. She won awards from the League of Canadian Poets, the Toronto Arts & Letters Club Foundation, and the Eden Mills Writer’s Festival, and was runner-up for the Janice Colbert Poetry Award. Pujita was Mississauga’s Youth Poet Laureate from 2018-2020, and she studied Political Science at Western University. As an active member of London’s literary scene, Pujita is currently serving on the committee for Antler River Poetry.
Sanna Wani (she/her) is a Kashmiri-Canadian writer, editor and translator living in Etobicoke, an Anglicized word originating from the Mississauga First Nation word “wah-do-be-kang” (also spelled as “wadoopikaang” or “Adobigok”), which translates to “place where the alders grow. Her debut collection won the 2023 Trillium Award for Poetry. She is the creator and host of the podcast, Poet Talk; Poetry Editor at The Ex-Puritan; and Publicity Manager at Between the Lines. She loves daisies, pottery, and her dog, Juniper.
