A Double Bill at the Punyah Theatre,
1. Mārgam by Vivek Ramanan
2. Kailāsakṛṣṇa by K. Sarveshan & Team “In a beautiful mandira situated on the snow-capped peaks of Kailasa, Parvati and Shambhu, tired from a night of passion, rest in each other`s loving embrace. Shambhu admires Parvati’s enchanting beauty and imagines how magnificent it must be to experience life with all the wonders of Womanhood. With the tips of His fingers, He caresses Parvati’s lotus face and requests Her to take birth as a man on Earth, so that He may take birth as a woman. Parvati obliges. Together they prepare for their descent to Earth and go on to become the Eternal Lovers that we adore today: Radha & Krishna.” This alternate story of Sri Krishna Avataram found in the Devi Puranam has been creatively re-imagined using traditional techniques and tropes from the Bharatanatyam Margam performance format. The concept, as performed by K Sarveshan, invites audiences to acknowledge the complex diversity of our Purānas and Itihāsas, while offering nuance to the global conversations surrounding the politics of gender, identity and spirituality. WIth the growing interest in the work from across the world, the show boasts an impressive soundtrack by Rithvik Raja, which has further reinforced the artistic integrity of the work. Dancers : K. Sarveshan, Jayalakshmi Katte, Sutanuka Bhadury, Gayathri Aravindakshan, Shruti Subhash Tekawade & MS Vidyalakshmi.
