Pro tvorbu Vandkunsten je zásadní podpora kvality života, udržitelnost a práce s místními komunitami. Jejich stavby nebývají okázalé, nýbrž zohledňují kontext místa a jeho historii. Krom výstavby komerčních bytů a komunitních a kulturních center se aktivně věnují otázce dostupného bydlení.

Architektka Elena Astrid Rojas v roce 2009 absolvovala Det Konelige Akademi (Královskou akademii v Kodani). Ve Vandkunsten působí od roku 2011 a aktivně se podílí na vedení jejich projektů. V roce 2020 se stala partnerkou studia. Za svou průkopnickou práci ateliér získal řadu mezinárodních ocenění a v roce 2009 se stal historicky prvním studiem, kterému byla udělena prestižní Alvar Aalto Medal. Na svém kontě má také pět nominací na cenu EU Mies van der Rohe Award.

Copenhagen: A Driving Force of Transformation
The lecture by architect Elena Astrid Rojas will explore the Danish approach to the housing crisis. While many European countries often respond to vulnerable residential areas with demolition, Denmark addresses the issue through densification.
For Vandkunsten, supporting quality of life, sustainability, and working closely with local communities are fundamental principles. Their buildings are rarely ostentatious,instead, they respond sensitively to the context and history of the place. Alongside commercial housing and community and cultural centres, the studio is actively engaged in the question of affordable housing.

Architect Elena Astrid Rojas graduated from the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen in 2009. She has been part of Vandkunsten since 2011, where she plays an active role in leading the studio’s projects. In 2020, she became a Vandkunsten partner. For its pioneering work, the studio has received numerous international awards and, in 2009, became the first studio to win the prestigious Alvar Aalto Medal. It has also received five nominations for the EU Mies van der Rohe Award.
