What even *is* meditation, and why would I want to do it? And why is everyone always talking about mindfulness? If you have ever wondered these things, or even have some idea of the answer but haven’t really tried it (or maybe just in a yoga class?), please join Adam Groff for a two-hour introduction to meditation and mindfulness. We will discuss their benefits for stress reduction and overall psychological well-being, and Adam will also point to the Buddhist historical context from which they spring, although no interest in Buddhism is necessary – the main point of these practices is that they have demonstrable benefits for the quality of our day-to-day lives, by making us less reactive and giving us more perspective on our own experience. All are welcome to attend this program, although the instruction will be geared toward people with little or no meditation experience. The program will consist of an introduction and then relatively short periods of guided meditation with check-ins afterward. The total duration of the program is slightly shorter than our regular Saturday programs, and the pricing is lower too. We encourage you to give it a try!
Adam Groff is the manager of North Shore Insight Meditation Community, as well as a meditation teacher. He has been practicing Buddhist meditation in the Insight/Theravada tradition since the 2000s, and is currently a graduate student in mental health counseling.
