Join us outside the Cincinnati Park Board meeting to say NO TO BULLDOZERS IN BURNET WOODS. Supporters are asked to line the sidewalks approaching the building starting at 8:15AM. We will stay until 9:15AM. Cincinnati Parks is continuing to push a $445,000 hardscape dog park project in Burnet Woods at the cost of losing a healthy, climate resilient greenspace over 150-years old. Neighbors living next to this project site have been INTENTIONALLY DENIED INPUT and community engagement by Cincinnati Parks. Community Councils, environmental organizations, Parks professional staff and park volunteers opposed to this destruction have all been ignored by the Board of Park Commissioners, and in some cases openly mocked by Commissioners in public meetings.
Please help us remind City Council and the Park Board Commissioners that the voice of the public in stewardship of our public lands should be present, equitable, and treated with respect.
This is intended to be a PEACEFUL event which will not disrupt flow of traffic by vehicles or pedestrians entering the meeting. Those who wish to attend and speak in the meeting public comment period should plan time to fill out a speaker's card at the front desk. Meeting start time is 9AM. Public comments are usually limited to 2 minutes. Additional meeting information can be found here: https://www.cincinnati-oh.gov/cincyparks/about/public-meetings/
The Parks Admin building has a small parking lot wrapping around the building with additional street parking available in front of the Art Museum. Those who have the ability may consider walking from nearby parking in Eden Park to the Admin Building if parking is not available at the meeting location.
Cincinnati Parks are public lands, supported through the funds of $20+ million taxpayer dollars and thousands of hours of volunteer labor each year. It is the role of the Park Commissioners to steward the city's 5,000 acres of greenspace on behalf of the public interest and follow their mission statement. In the last 6 years, Parks deferred maintenance deficit has increased by almost $20 million dollars (reaching $70 million) as our park infrastructures continue to fail. The disparity in quality of our parks between our communities continues to grow. Spending over almost half-a-million dollars to put in an unwanted project in a park which has more than $4 million dollars in deferred maintenance is poor stewardship environmentally and fiscally. Where is the money going? What is our Park Board doing? Whose interests are they serving?
