An afternoon of radical history, stories, music and comradeship. The event will begin at the Queens Domain in Hobart where Professor Michael Quinlan will take us through a history of the Domain as a gathering place for Tasmania’s working class.
We will then move on to the Hobart Convict Penitentiary, which is a 10 minute walk away, where Professor Hamish Maxwell-Stewart will guide us through the convict history on display.
Finally, another short walk to the Hope & Anchor, where we will have a private function upstairs to again hear from both Michael and Hamish, as well as music from The Union Choir, Opportunistic Crimes of Poverty, and poetry readings.
Dinner will be available from at the Hope & Anchor.
We suggest those who would like dinner contact the venue directly to book a table as space may be limited upstairs.
Phone the Hope & Anchor on (03)62369982 and tell them you’re booking for the Radical History event.
www.hopeandanchorhotel.com.au for menu.
We ask that you RSVP for numbers as a limited edition booklet will be provided and we don’t want to run out.
We suggest wearing comfortable shoes due to the walk between venues and dress for the weather.
If rain is forecast we may start at the Penitentiary instead (we’ll post details on the event page so check in!)
It’s a good idea to have lunch before we kick off.
Hope to see you there, comrades!
