About this Event
When we spend so much of life burying the awkwardness that makes up most of it, we want to offer this workshop as a space to get out of our heads together. This single day session serves as a reminder that awkward moments are what make us human: pauses, imperfections, repetitions. Cozy up with a cup of tea and join us in experimenting with texture and textile as we create a “cringe is community” tapestry alongside imaginary landscapes, “topographies of belonging”.
In this workshop, you’ll experiment with various materials to create miniature landscapes while contributing to a larger collaborative tufted piece that grows as everyone adds their mark via tufting gun. Participants will be invited to anonymously share a story of cringe on fabric to be sewn into the tapestry, and are invited to bring a bit of hair-- their own a loved one's or a pets--or sentimental item to be incorporated. You’ll learn the basics of tufting and experiment with mixed media creating a mini landscape. This workshop centers textural immersion, slowness, and imperfection.
Be it with yourself or someone else, connection is a patchwork process much like the tapestry and landscapes we create. Bring your cringe, your cozy, and join us for crafting connections!
Free, beginner oriented, 18+, no experience required! This workshop is part of The Foundry's Annual Festival.
