The Dog Valley Dispatch80 kilometers. 6,000 feet of climbing. Reno to the edge and back.
June 6th, 2026
Reno, NV
We roll out and return to Mayberry Park — a quiet start before things get loud.
The route begins civilized enough, tracing the river corridor out toward Verdi — the kind of morning that makes you question why you ever owned a car. Then Dog Valley arrives, and the questions change. It’s a climb that sounds like a nature documentary and rides like a bad debt coming due.
We’ll regroup at the top — where a truck will be waiting with food, drinks, and whatever dignity you’ve managed to hang onto.
From there, the descent drops into Bordertown — a place that’s never once tried to be reassuring — before we roll out again, threading back through the high desert and across the flanks of Peavine Mountain.
Six thousand feet of climbing. The math is not in your favor.
The scenery, at least, is spectacular.
Somewhere above the treeline, the whole basin opens up beneath you and you’ll understand — briefly and completely — why you signed up for this.
That moment will pass.
The climbing will not.
We’ll make our way back to Mayberry Park to hang out, decompress, and tell increasingly dishonest versions of how the day went.
