Join us as we learn how to "discover" the lives of 18th century women through research. How do we learn about women in the 18th century? What sources about women's lives and material culture are available to us? How do we know how to interpret these sources? Keynote speaker, Kirsten Hammerstrom will answer these questions and more as she guides us in understanding the what, how and why of research.Heritage Sewing Group co-founder Vicki Lynn Embrey will lead participants in a workshop about aprons. We will look at research showing the variety of aprons worn by 18th century women and discuss the context in which the various styles were worn. We will make a fine muslin apron of our own. We will also look at other accessories that would be worn with a muslin apron and choose to make either a matching pair of ruffles or a handkerchief. Materials for these projects will be provided.
We will finish off the workshop with a fun non sewing small project.
Your workshop fee will included dinner Friday evening and breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday as well as snacks and beverages throughout the day.
We will also have shopping Friday night and throughout the day Saturday. Our famous swap and shop will be open for all participants to bring their no longer needed 18th century clothing/material culture/fabric/ books/patterns to sell.
We will also have visiting vendor Virgil's Fine Goods with fabric, patterns and cosmetic items for your pleasure.
We'll have a bonus zoom presentation on Sunday March 1st at 7 pm. (more info coming)
