Join us for a screening of Death at Sea, an award-winning documentary that follows the life and untimely death of fisheries observer, Eritara Aati Kaierua, through the eyes of the family he left behind. A roundtable discussion, hosted by Abby Govindan, with the film's director will follow the screening.
About the host: Abby Govindan
Abby Govindan is a 26-year-old stand-up comedian and writer based in New York City. Abby got her start in comedy at the age of 20, making her comedic debut at Caroline’s on Broadway in New York City in December of 2017. Within a year of pursuing comedy, she had a meteoric rise after she went viral on the internet for her sharp wit and comedic ingenuity. She has amassed over 250,000 followers across all social media platforms. Since starting comedy, Abby has performed at venues all over the country and, in 2019, even toured as a headliner for several colleges across the nation while being a college student herself. In addition to this, she has also opened for comedy heavyweights such as Hasan Minhaj, Daniel Sloss, and Russell Peters.

Sara Pipernos
Sara Pipernos is an American filmmaker specializing in marine-focused documentary-making. Her debut documentary - a collaboration with Human Rights at Sea International - ‘Death at Sea’, highlights the abuses seafarers face on the high seas and was a finalist at the Jackson Wild Film Festival. Before undertaking a career in filmmaking, worked as an international policy advocate in Washington, DC helping adopt fisheries policy on the high seas. Sara translates her fisheries expertise into filmmaking, telling stories that advocate for marine policy reform via effective science communication.
Stefano Pennisi
Stefano Pennisi is a Director and Producer with over 15 years of domestic and international Media Production experience. Stefano has produced and directed a number of short films including the thriller 'Blue Bison' and the critically acclaimed short 'The Fisherman' which was an official selection at the BFI Film Festival. He is also the Executive Producer of the YouTube channel 'How To Drink' which has over 1.5 Million subscribers.
Mairi Eyres
Mairi is an award-winning self-shooting film director, photographer and a science communicator based in the United Kingdom. Her film, ‘Grasping the Nettle’ won Best Student Film at the 2024 International Wildlife Film Festival. Her work has been selected for other international film festivals (Norwich Queer International Film Festival, London Mountain Film Festival). She also holds a Masters degree in Chemistry from Cambridge University.
