Join us in celebrating 250 years of independence with the premiere of First People, First State; Cheswold’s American Indian Community.Through firsthand memories, images, and stories from tribal Elders, this documentary chronicles the experiences of Cheswold’s American Indian community, focusing on their history of farming, church, and school. First People, First State; Cheswold’s American Indian Community, highlights the resilience and enduring efforts of descendants of Delaware’s original inhabitants to preserve their identity, sharing personal accounts of triumphs, challenges, and their contributions to the community and region.
Initiated by the Lenape Indian Tribe of Delaware, this film is the first of several documentary projects that will ultimately record the American Indian Community in and around Cheswold, from the people themselves.
This project was made possible through funding and support from Delaware 250, Delaware Heritage Commission and 302 Stories, Inc.
