DoConnnect #8 - Monica Geingos, First Lady of the Republic of Namibia

We are honored to have the First Lady of the Republic of Namibia, Monica Geingos, joining us for an intimate panel discussion on one of the topics closest to her heart:

and help them reach their full potential - especially in the field of entrepreneurship.

These past years have not been easy for the country. The economic struggles are being reflected in Namibia’s youth unemployment rate, which currently stands at over 50%. This is reason for concern, but has also motivated many to create real change - one of them being the First Lady. Since assuming her role in 2015, Monica Geingos has been restlessly working on supporting the country’s next generation of trailblazers.

Through her One Economy Foundation, she has initiated numerous programs that focus on sustainably uplifting vulnerable parts of the population out of poverty-stricken circumstances - especially youngsters. One of these programs is the #BeFree Movement. This youth-driven program facilitates a non-judgemental platform for the youth to discuss their challenges, while assisting them to take their personal development and lives into their own hands.

Monica Geingos herself is an experienced Business Woman and Lawyer by profession. She was Managing Director of a private equity fund, Stimulus Equity for over a decade. She served on the Boards of public and private sector companies such as eBank and PointBreak. A long-standing member of high-level policy advisory boards such as the governing Party’s Think Tank, the President’s Economic Advisory Council, and the National Council of the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry. She has a deep understanding of the issues and challenges Namibia is facing.

Together we will discuss how to improve the education sector in Namibia, reduce the social inequality prevailing among the youth, and encourage young entrepreneurship. We are eager to find out what was important to her when raising her own daughter. Furthermore: What can be done to create jobs for Namibia's young generation? What would she advise them to do in order to take charge of their own future? What vision does the First Lady have for the country's next generation of change makers overall?

An inspiration to so many, not just because of who she is and what she’s done – but because of what she stands for. We are so excited for this very special evening with a very special lady!
