Rope-Making with Recycled Textiles — From Machine Braiding to Kumihimo
In this workshop the participants will explore the process of rope production. As part of the Open Hardware section, we will demonstrate automated textile techniques usually only seen in industrial settings. The focus is on experiencing rope braiding firsthand in a hands-on session, where you will create your own ropes from discarded clothing — some material will be provided, but you are welcome to bring their own.
Participants will make a keychain from their self-produced rope. One part will be made with the braiding machine using an outer material (choice of white or black) and customizable inner material. The second part will be crafted with Kumihimo technique using T-Yarn, resulting in an elastic, thicker, and more decorative element.
We would like to cover all the material costs for the workshop therefora we kingly ask you to donate beween 5 -10€ as participation fee :)
