About The Artist: Khadyjah is a star drummer in West African Percussion and the first African American woman to tour globally with a Guinea drum troupe. With over two decades of experience performing for millions and teaching thousands, her passion and expertise will inspire every participant.
About The Djembe: The word “Djembe” derives from the phrase “Anke djé, anke bé,” in Bambara, which means “Everyone gather together! It is a traditional drum originating from West Africa, deeply rooted in the culture and daily life of the Mandé people, particularly in countries like Guinea, Mali, Senegal, and Ivory Coast. Its cultural significance goes far beyond being a musical instrument, as it plays a central role in communication, celebration, and storytelling.
