This event will take place in the Clydeside Hall at The Briggait.
Academic and zine-maker Dr Gemma Flynn explores the rich culture of DIY fan-created gifting within commercialised music spaces in this fun and relaxed event. Drawing on sociological research on fandom and the radical potential of DIY media, Gemma will present a talk on the evolving culture of fan gifting, from BTS ARMY to Swifties: what it represents, how it circulates, and why it matters. You’ll discover how this practice fosters collective care and forms of everyday resistance within hyper-capitalist spaces.
During the talk, you are invited to make your own fandom crafts while you listen. Materials will be provided to make bracelets, badges, and stickers. Crafting and fidgeting are encouraged to create a relaxed and inclusive environment for learning.
About the facilitator:
Dr Gemma Flynn teaches Social Policy and Criminology at the University of Strathclyde. She is a member of Inkling, an independent, queer and neurodivergent Risograph print and publishing studio in Govanhill, as well as the Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research. Gemma also delivers the Glasgow Zine Library’s ‘Social Theory and Pop Culture’ series and has a table of zines at this year's Glasgow Zine Fest.

There will be 50 attendees maximum, and the event will feature comfort breaks. During this event, attendees will participate in: hands-on activities, listening to presentation
