Want to put up that shelf or curtain rail without it coming loose? Want to learn how to mark, saw and join wood accurately for a great result? This course is a great starting point and a great addition to our other Carpentry Courses.
You will now be able to learn these skills in a supportive environment of like-minded women. In this 2 Day Course we will be covering the basics of marking and sawing wood accurately, how to join wood together with screws and power drills and attach things to a wall so they don't fall off again. You'll even make your own small shelf to go away with and practice hanging it at home!
Day 1 will start with uncovering different materials a wall can be made of. Warning: you will be given homework to start investigating what the walls in your own house are made of! You will then start to practice sawing in a straight line all the way to ending up with a lovely little shelf!
Day 2 will start with looking at what the walls in your own house are made of. We will then guide you through identifying the correct combination of drill bit, fixing and screw for a given wall type and you'll have the opportunity to drill into different materials. Make holes in our blocks of granite, brick, concrete block and plasterboard and learn which drill is right for which job. We will give you a practice shelf to hang on a wall with your newly learnt skills.
Complete the course by having made your very own shelf and knowing how to hang it. Go forth and hang those pictures, shelves and curtain rails that had been gathering dust and make your home a wonderful place!
This is what some of our most recent participants have said about the DIY course : “Every woman should know this stuff!”. “A big thank you! One of the best courses I have ever taken, I learned so much”.
