About this Event
Instruments of the Divine, Religious Practice in Ancient Egypt -
Cult of the Living and Dead
In ancient Egypt the cult of the dead was permeated by the belief that the spiritual elements of the deceased could reside in a mummified body or a statue. To sustain the deceased offerings of food and drink, both physical, verbal and visual should be made. Part two of this course will study the objects which were used to maintain the cult of the dead. Tomb scenes and books of the afterlife will also be considered which illustrate this religious practice.
