Divesting from Anti-Blackness – Accomplice Training

Are you interested in understanding the crucial differences between an ally and an accomplice? Have you come across the term "anti-Blackness" but find yourself unsure about what it truly means?

Join us for Divesting from Anti-Blackness: Accomplice Training, an impactful two-hour workshop in honor of Black History Month, which will begin the journey to challenge the notion of allyship and empower participants to become true accomplices in the fight against anti-Blackness.

In this interactive session, we will clarify the roles of allies and accomplices and empower you to support the Black community in meaningful ways. While our focus is primarily on accompliceship within the Black community, the principles and insights you’ll gain will be applicable to various social justice issues, enhancing your ability to advocate for equity across multiple contexts.

Workshop Objectives:

1. Differentiate Ally and Accomplice: Explore the unique characteristics that set allies apart from accomplices, discovering how accompliceship is rooted in genuine solidarity and impactful action.

2. Understand Anti-Blackness: Gain a deeper understanding of what anti-Blackness is and how it manifests in society and in our personal lives.

3. Identify Unintentional Perpetuation: Explore the subtle, often unrecognized ways we may perpetuate anti-Blackness and systemic racism in our everyday actions and beliefs.

4. Develop Practical Strategies: Learn actionable strategies to divest from harmful behaviors and beliefs, empowering you to advocate actively for the Black community.

5. Apply Insights for Broader Impact: Utilize the insights gained to apply them to other social justice contexts, enhancing your overall effectiveness as an advocate for equity.

Facilitator: Shawn Vee (she/they) is a trauma-informed clinician with a Master of Education in Diversity and Equity. With a passion for educating others on symbolic violence, accompliceship, and anti-Blackness, Shawn brings extensive knowledge and expertise to this important topic.

This workshop is intended for those who identify as white/European Americans and non-Black People of Color (POC), but it is open to all, including Black individuals.
