Large language models have been trained on thousands of books and scripts, meaning entire scenes can be generated with just a few strokes of the keyboard. But should generative AI have a role in the theatre? And would audiences be able to tell the difference between a genuine Eboni Booth or Tennessee Williams and plays generated to merely resemble them?On May 16 at Leighton Auditorium, Nomad Theatre Collective is exploring these questions through a night of 10-minute plays, all written by real, human artists — except one. A panel discussion will follow, featuring guests Professor Susan Baxter (Saint Mary’s College), Micah Spiece (Wayne State University), and Professor Joshua Wells (Indiana University-South Bend).
[One dollar from the sale of each ticket will go to water restoration projects to offset the use of generative AI associated with this event. Learn more at https://www.b-e-f.org/programs/water-restoration-certificates/]
