About this Event
Step inside one of Orange’s most captivating historic homes as part of this special community home tour at 702 E. Chapman Avenue.
Originally built in the early 1920s for the Bartling family, this stunning Mediterranean residence reflects a time when craftsmanship and artistry defined homebuilding. Designed in collaboration with architect J.H. Roberts of Long Beach and constructed by Jules Markel, the home showcases remarkable original details that have stood the test of time.
Guests will experience hand-crafted features rarely seen today, from oak hardwood floors with black walnut inlays to gold leaf detailing, imported chandeliers, and intricate murals painted by artist Jim Redman. Many of the home’s original finishes, including its unique painted canvas walls, remain beautifully preserved, offering a rare glimpse into early 20th-century design and technique.
This home was previously featured on the Orange Community Historical Society’s tour in 1981, and we’re proud to once again open its doors to the community. Beyond its architectural significance, the property tells the story of Orange’s early residents, local families, and the rich history woven into the neighborhood.
Whether you’re a history enthusiast, architecture lover, or simply curious to explore a truly unique home, this is a rare opportunity to experience a living piece of Orange’s past.
