About this Event
Disturbing the Peace aims to uplift marginalized voices and fundraise for a better world. Share your voice, build community, and get involved.
This month, we’re using the power of poetry to fundraise for ACT UP, an NYC-based group that advocates for healthcare, LGBTQ+ causes, and progress in the fight against AIDS.
Disturbing the Peace borrows its name from James Baldwin’s essay “The Creative Process” in which he calls artists “the incorrigible disturber(s) of the peace.” We see poetry as essential to disrupting the status quo, and we want you to disrupt it with us.
Disturbing the Peace is free to attend, but we suggest a minimum $10 donation, with all funds going to ACT UP. NOTAFLOF. Sign up opens at 6:45, reading begins at 7. Come share your poetry and build community.
