Each year, our district holds a very special event that embodies so much of who we are as United Methodists. Our passion for Jesus directly relates to our zeal for helping our neighbors. We know how much Jesus loves all of us, and that's why we relish every opportunity to make a divine impact in one another's lives. On behalf of our team, I'd like to invite you to the 2026 Long Island East District Mission Walk and Picnic. This is a chance for your church to select a mission project and raise the funds it needs. It could be a ministry that your church does, or one that you'd like to support. It should be something that serves the community; something that will communicate easily to people outside your church about the good work you'd like to do. This will give you an opportunity to show people beyond your congregation that you care about what happens to others AND to invite them to care about others as well.
We give people options on how to give. We hope that your church will provide offline giving options, since not having processing fees means that more goes to your mission project. Donors can just give the funds to your local church, and you can just tell us how much you collected by May 31st. However, in order to make giving more accessible, our district is providing an online giving page if you choose to share it with your potential donors.
It's a picnic, too! Although our ultimate goal is for your church to have a tremendous, positive impact on our world in the name of Jesus Christ, this event also serves as our district picnic. Even if you can't do the 5K walk around the lake, we hope you'll bring your whole church. We have lots of fun activities throughout the day for children, active folks, and folks who just like to sit and chat. It's an opportunity to be together and enjoy life in LIE!

Most importantly, you'll find a link to register your church to participate. Once you do that, give us a couple of days and we'll add your church to the Walkers registration page.
I'm happy to announce that our District Superintendent, Rev. Ric Hanse, will again be providing us with a $200 award to the cooperative parish that pre-registers the greatest number of participants. You don't need to do anything special to qualify - just get your participants registered early!
