The Vivaldi Project
Elizabeth Field, violin - Allison Nyquist, violin & viola - Stephanie Vial, cello
The Vivaldi Project is delighted to bring works from the 4th volume of their critically acclaimed series, Discovering the Classical String Trio to The Music House. The string trio, although largely overlooked during the past century, was manifestly popular in its day—at its compositional peak (c. 1760-1770) out-publishing the string quartet by a ratio of more than five to one! These forgotten works, some 2000 string trios by more than 200 composers, reveal not only a wonderful amalgam of instrumental techniques and styles, but also a significant, untold part of chamber music’s history.
Gramophone describes The Vivaldi Project’s work with the string trio as “captivating” and “highly recommended,” and Fanfare Magazine declares that “all period string playing should sound like this.” Sunday's program will feature the 18th century violin virtuoso Maddalena Sirmen alongside works by Haydn, J.C. Bach, and Boccherini. For an additional treat, John O’Brien will join the trio for a flute quartet. www.thevivaldiproject.org
