Join us for our Oil Painting Workshop every Saturday from November 9th to 23rd! The sessions will run from 2 PM to 5 PM, led by renowned Miami-based artist, .
This 4 week workshop is designed for beginners who are interested in learning the fundamentals of oil painting. Participants will explore the medium of oil paints, from basic techniques and color mixing to creating a complete painting. No prior experience is required. The focus will be on building confidence, encouraging creativity, and developing essential skills.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
- Understand the basics of oil painting, including materials, tools, and techniques.
- Develop foundational skills in color theory, blending, and brushwork.
- Complete an original oil painting on canvas.
- Gain confidence to pursue oil painting as a hobby or artistic practice.
Workshop Structure:
Nov 2: Getting Started with Oil Painting
Introduction to Materials: Overview of brushes, canvases, oil paints, and mediums.
Understanding Color Theory: Basics of the color wheel, primary, secondary, and complementary colors.
Brush Techniques & Textures: Learn essential brushstrokes, blending, and creating texture with oil paints.
Practice Session: Students will create basic color swatches and practice blending techniques.
Planning Your Painting: Sketching the composition, selecting a color palette and projecting on canvas
Nov 9: Creating a Simple Oil Painting
- Review: Discuss artists known for mastering landscapes and their techniques.
Nov 16: Choosing a Subject
- Documenting Your Subject: Attendees will choose which will be their focal point based on still life that will be set up.
- Planning Your Painting: Sketching the composition, selecting a color palette and projecting on canvas
- Project: Guided creation of a simple still life
Nov 24: Finalizing a Simple Oil Painting
- Review: Discuss artists known for mastering still lifes and their techniques.
- Finalize: Complete final painting project.
- Final Project: Group Critique and Reflection: Sharing completed works and constructive feedback session.
- Planning Your Painting: Sketching the composition and selecting a color palette.
- Layering & Blending: Learn how to build layers in oil painting and blend colors seamlessly.
- Final Project: Guided creation of a simple landscape.
Materials to Purchase
*We recommend you purchase materials at Jerry's Art Supply Wholesale Club of Miami located at 6448B S Dixie Hwy, South Miami, FL 33143. If you have a preferred art store, you can also purchase materials from there.*
- Linseed Oil
- Turpenoid
- Palette knife
- Windsor Newton Oil Color Painting Basic Set, 10 x 21ml Tubes
*If you rather not buy a set, we recommend purchasing the following colors: cadmium yellow pale hue, cadmium red deep hue, french ultramarine, phthalo blue, virdian hue, burnt umber, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, ivory black, titanium white
- 2 canvases (can be 11x14, 16x20 or 18x18)
- Disposable Grey Palette
- Brushes (1 inch round brush, 0.5 inch round brush, 2 inch flat brush, 1.5 inch flat brush, 1 inch flat brush, 0.5 inch flat brush)
- Transportable Box or Bag to carry materials in

About Natalie Galindo
Natalie Galindo is a Miami native with Cuban-Colombian parents. She currently works and studies at the University of Miami in Florida pursuing her Masters Degree in Painting. She received her Bachelor’s degree of Fine Arts at the University of Florida in Gainesville with a focus in painting.
She been part of multiple groups and exhibitions including an Art Basel group exhibition N2GETHER at Miami Art Society in 2021. She has commissioned private and public mural work in Miami and assistance Artists such as Rey Jaffet at the Four Seasons Hotel in Miami Beach. She is represented by Miami Art Society Gallery and revived the painting award at the Lowe Museum of Art Annual Student Juried Exhibition in 2023 and an honorable mention aware in 2017 for the JF Gallery Annual Juried Art Exhibition in West Palm, FL. In 2019 she was for of the Void Projects residency program. Natalie also has two publications, Coin Toss Magazine in 2021 and Miambiance in 2015.
