About this Event
Every year millions of people walk along Lincoln High Street and under the Stonebow & Guildhall on a route that is familiar to many. But did you know that Baxtergate, Saper Lane and St. Mary's Stigh are still in plain sight centuries later?
Join John Clayworth, MA student of Medieval Studies at the University of Lincoln on a tour of the streets of down-hill Lincoln.
After previously undertaking an undergraduate course in History at the same university, John has been a part of the Lincoln community for the past 4 years and has decided to develop this walking tour in collaboration with Lincoln's Historic Guildhall, to take locals and visitors around the overlooked streets of the lower city. John has a passion for all things medieval, with an array of knowledge surrounding politics and events of particularly fourteenth and fifteenth century Britain. Paert of the MA includes a module on Medieval Lincoln, and it was through this module that John had the inspiration to research more about the city that he has essentially adopted as his second home, and hopes this tour will be both informative and entertaining in equal measures.
The tours will start from outside Lincoln Guildhall on Saltergate, and finish outside the Postern Gate entrance on Saltergate approximately 80m from the start point. Please arrive in good time as the tours will commence promptly at the advertised start time.
** IMPORTANT INFORMATION
This tour will include one flight of steps which participants must be able to negotiate. There is an alternative route which can be taken, so please do highlight at the time of booking if you will require this. Thank you.
