Start by downloading the Action Tour Guide app, which will function as your personal tour guide, audio tour, and map all in one.
Once downloaded, you can choose which tours to do in what order. You can do them all at once, or save them for separate visits!
Your tour of the Keys starts at Key Largo and goes all the way to Key West. Along the way, you’ll get to see some unbelievable wildlife along the keys, from marine life at America’s only living coral reef to wild flocks of flamingos if you’re lucky. You’ll cruise across densely-populated Keys packed with shops and restaurants, as well as almost totally uninhabited ones full of unspoiled nature. And, of course, you’ll pass by tons of white sand beaches perfect for taking a dip in the warm Atlantic.
The tour also gives you insight into all sorts of wild history, like who had the impossible dream of connecting all the Keys in the first place. Plus, hear about President Truman’s “winter White House,” an iconic giant lobster, and other secrets of the island chain.
Finally, you’ll end up on Key West, the perfect place to catch a sunset surrounded by great food and great music.
Your tour of the Everglades starts just northeast of the park. As you drive through the park, you’ll learn how this unique landscape formed, what tribes once called it home, and much more. Want to learn about the Everglades’ unique wildlife? You’ll hear about gators, crocs, wading birds, and much more—including some creatures of local legend!
You’ll also pass by incredible boardwalk trails like the Gumbo Limbo and Anhinga Trails, which let you stroll through the lush wilderness and see the local critters in their natural habitat. If you’re bringing a boat, you’ll also find a canoe trail that’s perfect for adventurous travelers.
Plus, get your camera ready for stops like the Pa-Hay-Okee Lookout Tower—which boasts a panoramic vista of the “river of grass”—and West Lake Trail, featuring clear views across a large and often very active lake.
Finally, you’ll arrive at Eco Pond, a favorite haunt of wading birds, softshell turtles, and, of course, alligators. Your tour of the Everglades concludes just past this pond.
Your tour of Big Cypress begins on the outskirts of Miami. While you drive, you’ll get to know the Seminole tribe who fought to hold onto this land and hear about the modern-day struggle still playing out over protecting Big Cypress from destruction.
You’ll walk the scenic trails of Kirby Storter and H.P. Williams Parks, featuring incredible subtropical surroundings and plenty of wildlife. Or, if you’re more adventurous, you can wade into the swamp itself on the Gator Hook Trail.
Meanwhile, your tour will take you along the secluded Loop Road, where rumors abound about gangsters and musical legends. Plus, pay a visit to the smallest post office in America on your way!
The Big Cypress tour concludes at the Nathaniel P. Reed Visitor Center.
