About this Event

Lu Mourelle Art Gallery presents VERTENTE, a contemporary art exhibition in Cascais bringing together six artists whose work explores different directions of painting, abstraction and photography.

The exhibition runs from March 17 to May 3 at Lu Mourelle Art Gallery, located in the coastal town of Cascais, near Lisbon.

Featuring works by Lu Mourelle, Ana Archer, Duarte Vitória, Marcelo Barbosa, JReichler and Roberto Simonsen, the exhibition invites visitors to discover how different artistic languages can intersect through colour, emotion, gesture and visual experimentation.

The title VERTENTE – meaning slope, direction or flow – reflects the idea that contemporary art develops through multiple creative paths. Each artist in the exhibition represents a different “direction” within today’s artistic landscape, yet their works share a common exploration of emotion, material and visual energy.

At the centre of the exhibition is the expressive painting of Lu Mourelle, an artist known for vibrant colours and powerful female figures that explore identity, emotion and contemporary femininity.

The abstract paintings of Ana Archer bring intense colour and gestural movement, creating large-scale compositions that invite viewers into a physical and immersive experience of painting.

JReichler approaches abstraction through structure and balance, exploring relationships between colour, geometry and texture to create compositions that oscillate between visual intensity and contemplation.

The work of Duarte Vitória introduces a raw emotional dimension, using large-scale painting to explore the most visceral aspects of the human condition.

In contrast, Marcelo Barbosa’s abstract photography transforms fragments of reality into compositions of light, colour and rhythm, pushing photography beyond documentation into visual interpretation.

Finally, Roberto Simonsen investigates the materiality of painting, developing works that explore surface, structure and sensory perception.

Together, these artists create a dynamic dialogue between figurative and abstract art, painting and photography, emotion and structure. The exhibition invites visitors to move through different artistic perspectives while discovering how contemporary artists approach the same fundamental impulse: the need to transform experience into visual expression.

VERTENTE offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience contemporary art in Cascais and to explore the diversity of artistic practices shaping today's art scene.
