Intimacy, or closeness, is the foundation of many relationships. When it is successfully captured onscreen, we’re moved and engrossed. In this workshop hosted at WIF (Women In Film)’s Headquarters, I will use my own work in film and television to illustrate how to capture and evoke intimacy in performances and storytelling, and the core ways of directing it, embodying it as an actor, working with an intimacy coordinator, maintaining a safe and healthy environment on set, and working through one’s own personal traumas and experiences to convey a sense of love and safety in filmmaking. Directing intimacy is not only about sex or sensuality, but the beautiful synergy of connection, vulnerability and love. Let’s get into it.
I will explore several topics, including casting, chemistry, and screenwriting. I will also share clips and scenes from Jinn, Swagger, Water Angel, Noor, Insecure, and East New York. There will be an interactive exercise at the end of the workshop.
Location details will be sent upon RSVP.
