About this Event
Have you ever wondered what lives in your local pond? Beyond fish and the occasional alligator, macroinvertbrates are the main residents. These small, spineless animals are an important part of the food chain and often serve as indicators of water quality. Join Extension staff as we go on a dipnetting excursion to collect, identify, and document some of the macroinvertebrates in our ponds at Twin Lakes Park.
Before heading out in search of macroinvertebraes, we will begin our morning enjoying coffee, pastries, and a casual presentation about the critters we may encounter.
Participants should wear close-toed shoes and weather-appropriate gear. Sunscreen, bug spray, and a water bottle are also recommended.
Instructors:
- Jackie Lebouitz, UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County, Chemicals in the Environment Agent
