Join us for a critical discussion on how Nigeria's challenges have impacted its leadership role in Africa & what the west has to do with it.
About this Event

Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa and its largest economy, has long been regarded as a key player in West African diplomacy, security, and economic integration. However, despite its immense potential, Nigeria's ability to fully exert influence in the region has been hampered by persistent internal security challenges.

From the Boko Haram insurgency and rising banditry to deep-rooted ethnic and religious tensions, these issues have forced Nigeria to shift its focus inward, diminishing its traditional leadership role in West Africa. This panel will examine how domestic instability has affected Nigeria's diplomatic and economic influence in West Africa, the implications for regional cooperation, and what role the West plays in helping or hindering the situation.

This conversation is particularly timely as West Africa continues to face security, political, and economic challenges that require strong leadership.

Key Discussion Points:

  • Diplomacy and foreign policy in Nigeria
  • Impact of Boko Haram and internal security threats on Nigeria’s regional influence.
  • Ethnic and religious tensions and their effect on foreign policy.
