The Door County Historical Society invites you to kick off the year with an unforgettable “Dine & Discover” luncheon. This event will highlight the history of street clocks, brought to life by Sturgeon Bay resident and clock enthusiast Gary Vitse.Gary will delve into the stories of these towering timepieces, once icons of bustling streets and town squares. As practical as they were beautiful, street clocks served as landmarks and meeting points in communities across the country. Today, only a few remain, making them rare relics of a bygone era.
Gary’s presentation will spotlight his own historic street clock on Memorial Drive, one of Wisconsin’s last remaining examples. Learn about its origins, restoration, and the legacy it continues to represent in our community.
