Different Strokes Wellington is heading to València, Spain for Gay Games 2026!
Join us for an exclusive screening of the Emmy-nominated "Light in the Water", a documentary about one of our sister swim teams -- West Hollywood Aquatics. Plus, following the film, there will be a special Q&A with Producer Nathan Santell, one of our very own swimmers, DSW's Team Captain Richard Arnold and Hamish Allardice, the team's longest-standing member.
This event is a key fundraiser to support DSW swimmers who want to participate in future events and may not have the funds to do so. It will also be a chance to wish our swimmers competing in the Gay Games in Valencia at the end of June a “good luck!”
“Light in the Water”, by Director Lis Bartlett, tells the untold story of a group of gay men and women who found one another through competitive swimming -- and, in the process, built a family, a community, and a movement. The swimmers of West Hollywood Aquatics were pioneers: one of the first openly gay Masters swim teams, competitors in the inaugural Gay Games in San Francisco, and survivors of the AIDS crisis who faced unimaginable loss with resilience and solidarity. Through triumph and heartbreak, they transformed swimming into a powerful act of visibility, belonging, and resistance. This documentary celebrates the legacy of trailblazers who didn’t just fight for equality in sports -- they helped change the culture forever.
