SYNOPSIS

Step into a cathedral of sound this December where winter isn’t just a season — it’s a state of listening. Through the Cracks of Winter reimagines Christmas as a journey through light and shadow memory and renewal. Led by Lionel Tan and Mervin Wong this programme blurs the lines between classical and electronic structure and silence. Guided by the voice of the Jester the evening unfolds like a dream — fragile luminous and deeply human. Featuring music by Bach Vivaldi Debussy Arvo Pärt Schubert Listen differently and find what glows through the cracks of winter. 


ABOUT THE ENSEMBLE

Through the Cracks of Winter gathers a constellation of musicians — each distinct in voice and discipline yet bound by a shared instinct for listening discovery and transformation. Together they form an ensemble whose collective sound speaks of precision sensitivity and the courage to explore.


Yang Shuxiang – Violin I


Known for his rare intensity and emotional exactitude Shuxiang is the play-director of the conductorless re:Sound Chamber Orchestra and a regular fixture in Singapore’s chamber landscape. A graduate of the New England Conservatory under Donald Weilerstein his artistry lies in the fine balance between intellect and feeling — every phrase measured every silence deliberate.


Saenghaengfah Tosakul (Jeegy) – Violin II 


Jeegy’s refined tone and fluid ensemble playing have made her a versatile performer with orchestras such as The Philharmonic Orchestra Orchestra of the Music Makers and Metropolitan Festival Orchestra. Her sound anchors and uplifts — quietly confident always attuned.


Thantakorn Lakanasirorat (Tat) – Viola


Educated at the Royal College of Music in London Tat brings a voice of warmth and resonance to the ensemble. His playing bridges classical refinement with contemporary vitality drawing from his experience with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and regional ensembles.


Chee Jun Sian – Cello


A dynamic cellist whose work moves fluidly between the classical canon and experimental sound worlds. As a core member of the music collective Weird Aftertaste Jun Sian’s expressive performances are marked by curiosity and boldness.


Beatrice Lin – Keyboard I


A graduate of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory the Royal Academy of Music and the Haute École de Musique de Genève Beatrice is one of Singapore’s foremost collaborative pianists. Her playing is noted for its clarity lyricism and deep responsiveness — a quiet anchor in the ensemble’s shifting landscapes.


Xavier Lim – Keyboard II


A versatile musician and arranger fluent in both classical and jazz idioms Xavier brings harmonic imagination and rhythmic vitality to the ensemble. His presence bridges the concert’s acoustic roots with its contemporary pulse.


Jingyun Ng (Jyn) – Narrator / Vocal Soloist


Jingyun Ng (Jyn) is an artist voice educator and integrative somatic coach who runs her Know Your Voice private practice. As a vocal performer she is well-acquainted with experimental projects western classical new music and stage productions. Her work across sound-making photography writing bodymind exploration facilitation and coaching invite contemplation on how we inhabit ourselves spaces we exist in and time.


This ensemble interplays like light through frost: shifting glimmering alive. In their hands Through the Cracks of Winter becomes not merely a performance but an act of collective transformation — where every note every gesture every pause reveals what music can become when it listens back.
