Musicians of Ma’alwyck and Excelsior Vocal Ensemble warmly invite you to experience Henry Purcell’s operatic masterpiece,Dido & Aeneas. More than 300 years after its premiere, this gripping tale of love, fate, and tragedy continues to captivate audiences.We pair this masterpiece with a work by Purcell’s teacher and friend, John Blow: Ode on the Death of Henry Purcell. This glorious lament honors Purcell’s extraordinary musical gifts and commemorates a life taken far too soon.
Both works will be staged, featuring Opera Saratoga alum Claire McCahan and Michael Segura, and Bard VAP alum AddieRose Brown. Andrew Burger conducts, with Sharon Greene as stage director and set designer. Sara Senecal brings movement to life as dancer and choreographer. The orchestra will include flute, string quartet, bass, guitar, and keyboard, delivering a rich and immersive musical experience.
Performances are Friday, February 20th at 7pm at the Bethesda Episcopal Church in Saratoga Springs and Sunday, February 22nd at 3pm at Troy Music Hall.Tickets are $40 for general admission, $15 for students at Bethesda Episcopal, and $10 for students at Troy Music Hall.
