About this Event
The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946. It is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations committed to enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other people of African ancestry. Since its founding, the organization has grown to over 299 chapters in the United States and abroad, consists of over 17,000 women, and annually contributes over 1 million documented hours of service in our communities.
On May 19, 1951 the Tallahassee (FL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated was chartered at “Sunshine Manor, the home of former FAMU President and Mrs. George W. Gore, Jr. on the campus of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). The Chapter became the fortieth chapter in the organization and has the distinction of being the first chapter charted in the state of Florida.
For almost 75 years, the Tallahassee Chapter has positively impacted our service area of Leon and Gadsden counties. From the early days of a bookmobile at FAMU, clothes closets for needy families, purchasing Water Wells in Africa, and even constructing a school in South Africa, the Chapter has consistently fulfilled its mission and purpose.
During the 75 th Anniversary Celebration, the Chapter will proudly honor the seven visionary charter members of the chapter – Hilda Foote, Pearl Gore, Irene Edmonds, Sadie Yancey, Emily Hudson (Valdosta, GA), Ruth Hutto (Bainbridge, GA) and Thelma Walton (Thomasville, GA).
On May 16, 2026, the Chapter will host a Champagne Brunch for members only, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Later that evening, the anniversary celebrations will culiminate with a Gala, which is open to the public and begins at 6:00pm.
