Join us to gain insights into MRE and MPS from Dr Ziying Yin
About this Event

Muscle pain is a universal experience, stemming from various causes, yet there remains much to uncover about its measurement and management. Currently, the field suffers from a dearth of quantitative and objective methods for assessing pain and gauging the effectiveness of treatments.

Recent research and technological advancements hold promise for enhancing our understanding of pain, enabling objective pain measurement, and improving pain relief strategies. This discussion will centre on the use of Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) in researching Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS), a prevalent pain disorder.

Join us to gain insights into MRE and MPS from Dr Ziying Yin with her talk entitled “MR Elastography in Quantifying Myofascial Interface Mobility and Muscle Stiffness: A Future Approach to Map Myofascial Relief”, exploring how this tool can shape strategies for alleviating muscle pain. Dr Yin will also shed light on how Tuina (推拿), a non-invasive therapy from Traditional Chinese Medicine, is applied in muscle pain research, showcasing an integrative East-West approach to healthcare innovation.

Speaker:

Dr Ziying Yin

Assistant Professor in Medical Physics and an Associate Consultant II in the Department of Radiology
Mayo Clinic

Dr Yin is an Assistant Professor in Medical Physics and an Associate Consultant II in the Department of Radiology at the Mayo Clinic. Dr Yin earned her Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2014.

Specialising in Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE), Dr Yin's research focuses on understanding the mechanical characteristics of biological tissues, with a particular emphasis on tissue adherence, stiffness, and viscosity. Her work spans several key areas, including investigating tumour consistency and adherence, examining the brain's response to repeated head impacts, and evaluating the mobility of myofascial interfaces. Through her research, Dr Yin aims to facilitate pre-surgical planning for intracranial tumours, enable early detection of sports-induced subconcussive head injuries, and provide a quantitative assessment of myofascial pain.

Dr Yin has received funding from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), and the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB). She is also a Junior Fellow of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM).
