Built around 200 years ago, Haveli Dharampura derives its name from its locality. ‘Dharampura’ was named after the word ‘Dharam’-religion, likely because of the presence of a large number of Jain temples and the proximity of the historic Jama Masjid. The Haveli documents showcased that the Haveli belonged to a Muslim family till 1869 and then was owned by a Baniya family (Business caste). In 1982, the Haveli was passed on to an adopted son belonging to the Jain Community. The Haveli, once boasting of grandeur and royalty, had been reduced to an ordinary, run-down building with spaces unrecognisable and falling structures. In 2010, the Haveli was adopted for restoration and conservation. It took nearly 6 long years and 50 odd workmen under personal supervision to achieve the desired results. In fact, it took 3 years to stabilise the structure of the Haveli. Initially, the idea was to make it into a museum to showcase the preservation and conservation.
However, it was only after the 4th year when the beautification work started that the idea of using it as a Boutique Hotel was conceptualised. The Haveli has 14 rooms for guests to stay in, named after the Gates or the Markets of Old Delhi. The Restaurant ‘Lakhori’ is dedicated to Lakhori Bricks, one of the main construction materials in the Mughal period. To highlight them, the walls have been unplastered around the restaurant that takes its name from the brick.
