About this Event
Dewsbury is a fine West Yorkshire woollen town which was once the heart of the 'shoddy' wool recycling industry.
Join us at 10.30 for a tour of the lovely Victorian Arcade (being renovated), then at 11.00 for tea/coffee and biscuits at Dewsbury Town Hall (1888-89, Holtom & Fox) for a short AGM at 11.30, then hear two expert local speakers:
Rosemary Arden on Dewsbury and
Charles Smith, Policy Director at English Heritage, on its work and challenges in West Yorkshire.
Optional café for lunch nearby and a recommended short walk to Dewsbury Minster. The Arcade and Town Hall are a 5 minute walk from Dewsbury Railway Station. All welcome, though booking via Eventbrite needed for the Arcade visit (hard hats required).
Attendance at the AGM is free for members of the Victorian Society
A cash donation - suggested amount £5 (members) and £10 (non-members)- is invited as a contribution towards the costs incurred in running the visit and talks parts of the event. Thank you.
