It’s a very busy time for competition law in the EU and UK. Organised under the auspices of the Edinburgh Competition Law and Economics Network, this event brings together Edinburgh Law School’s competition law academics to reflect on major trends in the field across Europe. Dr Andrew McLean will chair a conversation between Professor Arianna Andreangeli, Dr Robert Lane and Dr Grigoris Bacharis, covering various topics including recent judgments from the European Court of Justice, changes at the European Commission, and developments in private law enforcement.
The conversation will be followed by a Q&A and networking drinks.
About the speakers
Professor Arianna Andreangeli holds a Personal Chair of Competition Law at Edinburgh Law School. Her research interests lie in the substantive and procedural aspects of EU and domestic competition law, with a particular interest in how the competition rules can be effectively applied to safeguard rivalry in the market while safeguarding the concerned actors' economic freedom and incentive to innovate and invest.
Dr Grigoris Bacharis is a Lecturer in Private Law at Edinburgh Law School. His research interests lie broadly in private law (across both civil and common law jurisdictions), competition law, EU law, and legal theory. His current work focuses on the interaction between competition damages claims and tort law from the perspective of private law theory.
Dr Robert Lane is a Senior Lecturer in EU Law at Edinburgh Law School. His principal areas of interest lie within the various strands of EU law, including the constitutional and administrative law of the European Union, the law of the internal market and competition law.
Dr Andrew McLean is a Lecturer in Law & Political Economy at Edinburgh Law School. His current research centres on the intersection of antitrust and finance, as well as on the role of economics in competition law and practice. Dr McLean is Director of the Edinburgh Competition Law and Economics Network.
