About this Event

This continuing education event teaches participants the theory and foundational skills of Developmental Play Therapy (DPT). Participants will learn specific games and activities for implementing touch-based Play Therapy interventions. FirstPlay Therapy, an adapted DPT model, will be briefly introduced. The significance of the neurobiology of touch will be reviewed along with APT's Paper on Touch leading to a discussion on the therapeutic and ethical risks and benefits for use of touch in treatment. Learning Objectives

At the end of this workshop, the learner will be able to:

1. Recite the core theoretical concepts of Developmental Play Therapy

2. Apply Developmental Play Therapy theory to conceptualize clients

3. Recite the Association for Play Therapy’s guidelines regarding touch in Play Therapy

4. Analyze the ethical and therapeutic risks and benefits of use of touch in treatment

5. Identify Developmental Play Therapy methods, skills, and interventions

6. Assess when Developmental Play Therapy is an appropriate intervention for a client

9:00 am – 10:30 am – Theoretical Foundations of Developmental Play Therapy

10:30 am – 12:00 pm – Ethical concerns with use of touch in therapy

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm - Lunch

1:00 pm – 3:00 pm – Developmental Play Therapy Process

3:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Developmental Play Therapy Skills and Interventions Practice

Participation

A Time for Play Therapy Continuing Education events are professional trainings developed for master's level mental health clinicians and students. Prior Play Therapy knowledge and experience are helpful but not necessary to participate. Play Therapy credit available to mental health professionals and graduate students in a mental health program.


Handouts

Each registration for an A Time for Play Continuing Education includes limited time access to a Google Drive folders with handouts specific to the training. It also includes a folder of suggested readings of articles, book excerpts, and research that are specifically relevant to the Play Therapy training topic. Please make sure you are able to access and download the materials.


Virtual Attendance

Per APT guidelines, virtually attendees must keep your cameras on and be present and focused throughout the entire presentation. This guideline is especially important because there are several interactive activities and breakout discussions that require group participation.


Post-Test and Evaluation

Participants will be given a post-test and an anonymous evaluation to complete at the end of each training. Participants must attest to completing the evaluation and must meet a minimum score of 80% to receive Continuing Education credit.

Cancellation and refund policy

Registration refunds will NOT be made to parties who register but do not attend or do not request a refund from the organizer 24 hours in advance.

Participants requiring accommodations must submit a medical professional’s note specifying the required accommodations to [email protected] at least 7 days prior to any training for which they have registered.


Cancellation Policy

A Time for Play reserves the right to cancel any of these training in the event of unforeseen circumstances. If such a cancellation occurs, A Time for Play will attempt to notify registrants and refund all registration fees.


Continuing Education Credits

This Continuing Education event is acceptable for the purposes of license renewal for Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors, and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists in the state of Texas by fully complying with Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council guidelines and Texas Administrative Code RULE §781.501, RULE §681.142, & RULE §801.261

The Association for Play Therapy sets the credentialing standards for Play Therapists and approves applications for the Registered Play Therapist Credential. Please review the credentialing standards for full list of the requirements to obtain the credential by visiting the Association for Play Therapy website.

The Healing Place Therapy Center, PLLC has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. The Healing Place, PLLC maintains and delivers the A Time for Play | Play Therapy training series and is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

It is the responsibility of mental health professionals to check with their state board to determine if credit issued through an NBCC Approved Continuing Education Provider or an Association for Play Therapy approved provider of the play therapy CE is accepted for credit by their state board.
